This necklace appeared alongside a matching bracelet and earrings in the M16 Studio Artist Foyer Exhibition during the spring showing from September to November 2023. It is made from fine and sterling silver, and measures 3 x 0.5 x 44cm.
Below is a description of the series:
The idea for this series was born from my desire to repurpose offcut (scrap) metal from my production line work to craft standalone objects of desire. The fine silver elements of these pieces have been made with leftover scraps from other work. For my production work, I create earrings and necklaces using sheets of fine silver, which I roll down from 0.3mm to 0.1mm. This gives the metal a lightness and malleability that allows me to make large, sculptural jewellery. From this process, I am left with oddly-shaped yet beautiful slivers of silver that I could refine to make more production work. Instead, I hold onto these offcuts with the intent to repurpose them, as I have done in this series.
